Rebecca Halstead was born and brought up in East Yorkshire. She is a graduate of Edinburgh College of Art, and went on to receive an Andrew Grant Scholarship to study at post graduate level. She subsequently worked in the jewellery industry as a designer based in London’s Bond Street and Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. In 1991 Rebecca set up her jewellery studio in Edinburgh and also worked for many years at Edinburgh College of Art as a lecturer in design. She continues to teach in Edinburgh, running several jewellery classes.
Rebecca has exhibited widely in the UK - participating in group and solo exhibitions.
Her designs are bold and flamboyant, and each piece is made by hand by Rebecca in her Edinburgh studio with an emphasis on quality workmanship, using traditional skills. Colour, pattern and movement have always featured in Rebecca’s work and her current collection brings together the technique of stone setting to ‘set’ elements of silver into her designs. She mainly works in sterling silver, sometimes oxidised black and often incorporating high quality semi-precious stones and pearls.
