Cathy Sutherland

Cathy creates elegant jewellery and small silverware using the techniques of chasing and repoussé to capture the flowing patterns and textures found in the intricacies of nature.

Silver is manipulated under steel punches and through rounds of hammering her pieces evolve into decorative objects made up of elaborate networks of lines and detailed patterns. These hammer marks form deep textures and create wonderful tactile surface designs, reflecting the incredible repetitions of flora, fauna and the elements.

Cathy’s work has grown to incorporate winding patterns within structured outlines, enclosing ripples of silver with touches of gold detailing dancing across the surface, inspired by subtle veins of skeleton leaves or the branched patterns of ice crystals.
